ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The LGBTQ+ advocacy group Promo Missouri says the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision not to revisit its landmark same-sex marriage ruling is a relief, but not a sign that the fight for equality is over.
On Monday, justices declined to take up an appeal tied to former Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis, who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples after the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision recognized a constitutional right to same-sex marriage nationwide. By letting lower court rulings stand, the high court left that precedent intact.
“For a while, it certainly causes some fear when the Supreme Court says that they are looking at a case,” said Robert Fisher, communications director for Promo Missouri, which is headquartered in St. Louis.
