DECATUR, Ga. — DeKalb County commissioners are expected to vote on a new ambulance contract next week, which officials hope will address concerns over slow ambulance service.

The new contract would be with the same ambulance company beset by complaints.

AMR is a private ambulance service that has answered calls in DeKalb County since 2013. However, as the years passed, some customers complained that the ambulance service responded to many calls too slowly.

"I cannot believe ambulances are taking this long to get to people in a life-or-death situation," Claudia Colichon told 11Alive news in April 2024. She says AMR's slow response to a dog attack nearly cost her mother her life.
