CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The City of Charleston is opening a West Ashley warming center as freezing temperatures are expected to impact the area Monday evening into Tuesday.
In partnership with the Salvation Army, the center will open at the Salvation Army Center, located at 2135 Ashley River Road in Charleston. Doors open at 8 p.m. and guests are welcome until 7 a.m. Monday.
The center will provide shelter for up to 50 people, offering food, water, and cots.
CARTA buses will provide transportation to the center from the peninsula at 63 Mary Street until 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Charleston issued a “freeze warning” from 9 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday, ahead of a burst of frigid temperatures that started to move into the region overnight.
