RICHMOND, Va. — The Allianz Richmond Marathon has sold out all three race distances for the first time in its 48-year history, with organizers calling it an unprecedented trifecta.
Sports Backers saw each of the three races fill up faster than ever this year. More than two months before race day, the Allianz Richmond Marathon posted that it had 25 spots left. Less than 30 minutes later, it sold out.
“We had definitely been running ahead of last year, but the last few weeks were just really big jumps,” said Meghan Keogh, race director.
The marathon sellout nudged people to sign up for the CarMax Half Marathon, which filled up in September. All spots in the VCU 8K were taken in October.
A total of 21,200 runners and walkers are registered for this race weekend.
