High-profile ABC presenter Patricia Karvelas has penned an opinion piece criticising the internal Liberal debate on net-zero as an "act of self-harm" and labelled former opposition leader Peter Dutton as an "authoritarian".

It comes as the the national broadcaster faces calls for regulatory reform due to a string of shocking editorial failures and accusations of bias reporting - including issuing 75 corrections in the past 11 months.

In the scathing op-ed, the star ABC presenter, who has an obligation to be impartial, blasted Liberal Party members who were considering "tearing down its first ever female leader".

Karvelas also criticised the Liberal Party's detailed internal policy process over whether to support or dump net zero, comparing the debate to an "act of self-harm".
