The Kansas State Department of Education has once again recognized Abilene Public Schools for its work supporting students’ social and emotional development.
USD 435 earned a Copper Kansans Can Star Award in the Social-Emotional Growth category for the second consecutive year — an achievement that Abilene Middle School Principal Jenna Delay said reflects a districtwide commitment to helping students succeed beyond academics.
While some awards are data-based, others, like Social-Emotional Growth, require a detailed application and supporting documentation.
“We had to answer a lot of questions and upload a lot of documentation and try to show what we’re doing as a school district to work with our students on their social-emotional needs,” she said.
