AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) - Gov. Janet Mills said the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) began distributing full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on Monday, as the Trump administration returned to the Supreme Court in its push to keep full payments in the federal food aid program frozen during the U.S. government shutdown.
“Thanks to the quick action of my administration, full benefits to eligible SNAP beneficiaries in Maine began flowing (Monday) morning — a move firmly supported by the courts,” Mills said in a statement shared with our media partners WMTW .
Mills had directed DHHS on Friday to begin sending full SNAP benefits for November to all eligible households on Monday. The governor’s decision came after the U.S. Department of Agriculture
