Phil Hughes has resigned as the football coach at Canyon, the school announced Monday.

Canyon reported that Hughes resigned to create more family time.

He coached Canyon for four seasons and the team was 17-25 during his tenure.

Canyon was 9-3 in the 2023 season to tie a school record for football wins in a season.

Canyon principal Brent McKee said in a school statement: “We thank Coach Hughes for his four years of dedication and hard work. We fully support his decision to prioritize his family and wish him the absolute best in his future endeavors.”

Canyon is accepting applications for its next football coach. Applicants are email school athletic director Nate Harrison at nharrison@orangeusd.org.
