MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) - A comprehensive assessment, conducted by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, has brought light to issues within the Moss Point Police Department that may have otherwise gone unseen.
A mass exodus of employees , beginning with the resignation of former police chief Brandon Ashley, happened at the department in September. Now, Mayor Billy Knight says the police department only has approximately six officers.
Mayor Knight asked the state to run an assessment on the department to help with the transition to interim chief Dennis Stevenson, and to help determine how to move forward with the police department.
Monday afternoon, Joshua Bromen, executive director of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety met with city leaders to discuss the findings.
