The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is searching for a place on the Oregon coast to develop an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility and is eyeing the Newport airport, according to a news release.
City of Newport officials said in the release they are working with local, state and federal authorities to verify that the Newport Municipal Airport is under consideration. The release states attempts to communicate with DHS went unanswered.
