SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Community School Corporation school board unanimously approved a new collective bargaining agreement with teachers on Monday night that will make the district the highest paying in the region.
The 7-0 vote elevates South Bend schools from outside Indiana’s top 200 teacher-paying districts to among the top 10 statewide over the next two years.
Under the new contract, South Bend schools will increase teacher salaries to an average of $65,000 annually. The agreement also includes a 35% pay raise for coaches and club sponsors as part of expanded extracurricular activities.
“The vote to approve action item 4.01 passes unanimously, seven votes,” said Dr. Jeanette McCullough, SBCSC school board president.
