A trial into the murder of Queensland woman Toyah Cordingley has entered its second day at the Supreme Court in Cairns.

Rajwinder Singh, 41, has been accused of the murder of 24-year-old Cordingley, whose body was found buried in sand on Wangetti Beach south of Port Douglas in October 2018.

Singh was charged with her murder in 2022.

The court heard Cordingley had been exercising on the beach with her dog Indie when she was violently killed.

Her devastated father Troy Cordingley discovered her body buried in a shallow sand grave when he went out to search for her after she failed to return home.

Her dog was found unharmed and tied to a tree about 30 metres inland.

On Monday, Singh, a former nurse, uttered just four words in court: “not guilty your honour”.
