Today marks 50 years since the most dramatic constitutional crisis in Australian history, the dismissal of then Prime Minister Gough Whitlam by Governor-General Sir John Kerr on 11 November 1975.

Half a century later, the legacy of that extraordinary day and the betrayal, treachery and clash of egos that fuelled events, continues to spark national debate and remains one of the most defining moments in Australia's political history.
