Man battered dad, 89, with hammer after being told to tidy his room

A man brutally attacked his 89 year old father with a hammer after a row about the untidy state of his room. Martin Thornley, 44, repeatedly struck his elderly dad, leaving him drenched in blood, with a fractured chest and a brain bleed.

The horrifying incident took place on the night of May 31 this year. Thornley, who shared a home with his dad, had written a note stating: "I, Martin Thornley, will tidy up his bedroom in three days" after being told to clear up his discarded vodka bottles.

He then picked up a hammer and used it to hit his father multiple times, inflicting several head wounds, a brain bleed, and a fracture to the breastbone.

The assault was not discovered until the next day when a neighbour spotted Mr Thornley Sr outside, clutching his chest, with blood
