TUI has issued a statement to worried customers after cruise ship passengers were forced to leap overboard when a catamaran dramatically sank in the Caribbean .

The small vessel was transporting passengers from the Mein Schiff 1 cruise ship during its stop at the Dominican Republic on Sunday when it quickly became submerged - leaving all 55 passengers with no other choice but to leap into the water . The group outing on the 12-metre (39ft) craft called Boca de Yuma ended with holidaymakers floating in the sunshine across Samana bay, before Dominican Navy personnel mounted a rescue operation.
