MILLIONS of state pensioners have been warned over text messages landing on phones. The Department for Work and Pensions, or DWP , has issued an update via X, formerly Twitter, for millions of retirees who are being paid the Winter Fuel Payment.
On X, the DWP said: "If you get a text about the "Winter Fuel Payment" or the "Winter Fuel Allowance", it is a scam. Winter Fuel Payments are automatic, you do not need to do anything.
"Report suspicious texts at https://stopthinkfraud.campaign.gov.uk ." West Devon Council has also laid bare "w hat to do if you've been targeted", adding: " Do not respond to the scam.
