SCHUYLER, Neb. (KOLN) - A statue of an eagle spreads its wings above a centerpiece that features the names of servicemen and women. The Colfax County Veterans Memorial honors these protectors in Schuyler.

“We have a very persuasive Navy guy called Jerry Mundil, and he wanted this memorial so bad that he instigated some money to be drawn,” said Lumir Jedlicka, commander for the Schuyler American Legion post.

Jedlicka partnered with Mike Benesch, the Schuyler commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Together, members of the American Legion and VFW made sure this veteran’s wish didn’t go unheard.

“Colfax County should have something,” Benesch said. “Other counties have (memorials), and so we just decided to sit down one day and start talking about it.”
