MASSENA, New York (WWNY) - Wind and snow didn’t keep the Massena community inside on Veterans Day.

AMVETS Post 4 in Massena held its annual Veterans Day parade, with a group of members and others marching through downtown Massena.

The parade ended at the fire department, where a ceremony was held indoors.

Afterward, the flag was raised, followed by a 3-volley salute.

Usually, veterans lead the parade, carrying flags. But due to harsh weather, members of Scouting America stepped in to fill the gaps.

“There was a shortfall of veterans able to do the flag ceremony, so the scouts volunteered to take over that role as well as be part of the color guard,” said Will LaBrosse, 2nd vice commander.

A lunch was held afterward.
