Slidell, La. (WVUE) - A 5-year-old child was killed Tuesday morning in a driveway accident in the Spartan Trace subdivision, and the child’s grandmother has been arrested on charges of vehicular homicide, Slidell Police said.

Shortly after 7 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Spartan Loop after a vehicle struck the child, who was preparing to leave for school and waiting for the school bus, police said.

Preliminary investigation indicates the child was in front of a 2016 GMC Yukon backing out of the driveway.

The driver, identified as 55-year-old Kristen Anders of Slidell, did not notice the child was outside and proceeded to leave for work, police said.
