MINNEAPOLIS — Metro Transit says its officers will be "highly visible" starting this holiday season as it intends to have more officials on light rail vehicles and contracted security officers at more than a dozen light rail boarding stations.

In a press release, Metro Transit officials said it will use Metro Transit Police, Community Service Officers, and Transit Riders Investment Program (TRIP) Agents to increase their presence on light rail cars, while also partnering with Inter-Con Security to staff 15 stations with security officers.

A Metro Transit spokesperson said the supplemental security is being launched as part of a three-year contract.
