BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Over one week after Election Day , Montgomery County’s provisional ballots were counted and the winner of the Mayoral race has been decided.
Michael Sutphin will serve as Blacksburg’s next Mayor, recieving just 18 more votes than his challenger, Peter Macedo.
Montgomery County’s Electoral Board counted over two-thousand provisional ballots Wednesday. The majority of those were Virginia Tech students who registered and voted day-of.
Before the provisional ballots were counted, Sutphin was trailing Macedo in a slim margin of votes. The race was originally too close to call a winning candidate.
Sutphin said he’s honored to win the election, and looks forward to addressing some of the biggest issues Blacksburg faces.
