SCRANTON, Pa. — A lawyer who represented Lackawanna County taxpayers who sued in 2018 to make the county's tax burden more fair will not consent to delaying implementation of new property values gathered after the county spent three years reassessing, according to a letter that lawyer wrote.
The letter Wednesday from attorney Marielle Macher, the executive director of the Community Justice Project, which represented several taxpayers, was in response to attorney John G. Dean, one of the lawyers who represented the county in that lawsuit that ended with an agreement to reassess for the first time since 1968.
Dean wrote Monday to Macher asking if she will agree to delay implementation of the county's new assessment until Jan 1. 2027 — up one year from the previously agreed upon date. Ce
