AUSTIN, Texas — The defense has started presenting their case to the jury in the trial of Austin Police Officer Daniel Sanchez who is accused of deadly conduct in connection with the on-duty shooting death of Rajan Moonesinghe.
On Monday, the prosecution rested its case .
Jurors will decide whether the actions of Officer Sanchez the night of Nov. 15, 2022, were justified.
Video from that night showed Moonesinghe standing outside of his home with a rifle. He fired two shots into an open door. According prosecutors, Moonesinghe believes there was someone inside.
Defense attorneys called four witnesses to the stand, which included APD officers and instructors from the police academy.
