PORTLAND, Ore. — A Toledo High School football coach has been criminally cited for slapping a student, following an investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Rodney Cross, 63, is accused of striking a student during a conversation in the school's gym on Oct. 24. Cross also serves as Toledo's mayor .
Detectives interviewed the student, who reported no physical injury but said they "felt embarrassed in front of peers who witnessed the incident," according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators reviewed video footage of the encounter, which the sheriff’s office said showed Cross slapping the student.
Detectives also interviewed Cross. Following the investigation, he was issued a criminal citation for harassment and is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 17.
