A former mayor and current councillor in Sutherland Shire Council is mourning the loss of his father after he was killed in a bus crash in Sydney’s south.

Councillor Carmelo Presce has shared a deeply emotional tribute after his father, Tony Pesce, was killed when struck by a bus on Monday afternoon.

Mr Presce said he never expected to make such a heartbreaking announcement, writing that it was “a post I never thought I’d have to make for a long time.”

He explained his father had been walking home from a doctor’s appointment when he was struck, adding that despite efforts to help him, “he couldn’t fight the injuries he sustained.”
