PLYMOUTH, N.C. (WITN) - The Plymouth Food Pantry and Bear Towne Market tenants may be vacated soon after the town council voted 3-1 Monday night to evict both tenants from town-owned properties.

The packed council meeting saw residents standing outside as council members voted to require the Plymouth Food Pantry to turn in its keys and vacate the building. The motion was added to the agenda under compliance issues at the end of the meeting.

Council member Crystal Davis, the incoming mayor, initiated the motion, claiming there is no record of the food pantry having a lease.

“You can’t occupy a building since the 90s. The town doesn’t even know who occupies it, nor has the lease, and it’s town property. It’s not legal,” Davis said.
