Atletico Madrid Women star Andrea Medina was hospitalised with a head injury during a Champions League match on Wednesday.
In the 73rd minute of the 2-1 defeat to Juventus Women , Medina challenged Barbara Bonansea and suddenly collapsed to the turf.
The assistant referee quickly sensed she was injured and referee Ewa Augustyn rushed towards her before calling for medical assistance.
Spain youth star Medina received treatment on the pitch for around five minutes and was then stretchered off.
"Andrea Medina was replaced after suffering a traumatic brain injury," an Atletico statement said.
"The footballer is doing well but has been transferred to a hospital centre to undergo additional tests."
