SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - Florida ranks third in the nation for sex trafficking of American children, prompting local organizations to increase efforts to combat the crime and assist victims.
Selah Freedom , a local anti-trafficking organization, works to end exploitation and bring freedom to victims. The organization held its annual gala Thursday night at the Westin in Sarasota to raise funds for its programs.
“The biggest thing is the internet,” said Stacey Efaw, executive director of Selah Freedom. “It used to be, in olden days, if your kid was sitting next to you on the couch, you knew they were safe. But now, if your child has access to any sort of electronic device, they are a target.”
