NASH COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A Nash County woman is behind bars after deputies say they found deployable living conditions for her daughter and pets.
Nancy Gupton is charged with felony child abuse and cruelty to animals after deputies went to her home on West Castalia Road on Monday to assist animal control officers.
Deputies say they found extensive trash in the yard, dead animals in pens, and skeletal remains from decomposed animals.
Gupton told deputies that her 10-year-old daughter lacked access to basic necessities, including education, medical care, and dental services.
On Wednesday, deputies returned to the home, confirming hazardous living conditions inside. The child was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and then placed in DSS custody.
Gupton was jailed on a $50,000 secure
