Now that the Ontario government has banned speed cameras effective Friday, they’ve announced they’ll spend $210 million to make roads safer.

The money comes through the Road Safety Initiatives Fund (RSIF) for increased road safety in school zones and community safety zones without using speed cameras, which Premier Doug Ford has previously called “cash grabs” by municipalities.

The RSIF will go towards traffic-calming measures like speed bumps, raised crosswalks, and roundabouts as well as high-visibility signage and increased police enforcement in school zones and community safety zones where municipal speed cameras were previously set up.
