FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Salvation Army of Allen County kicked off its Angel Tree campaign Thursday.

Officials with the organization gathered at Sweetwater Sound, the campaign’s largest donor, for the ceremony to discuss its Christmas assistance programs, the number of children it is serving, and how the community can help.

The organization’s Angel Tree campaign provides new clothing and toys to children between the ages of 0 and 14 whose families are facing financial hardship during the holidays.

Tags on Christmas trees at businesses across Allen County represent the children, and can be picked up by community members.

Each tag includes instructions, deadline and contact information, and links to registries and the online tag request form.

The campaign deadline is December 5.
