The Emporia High Spartans will set out on a new journey in a newly implemented sport this winter, as the KSHSAA had sanctioned esports as an official activity earlier this year. The games that will be played include Rocket League, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The official season begins the first week of December, but the preseason will begin on Nov. 17.

The KSHSAA partnered with PlayVS, an esports platform, to assist in running the newly implemented activity. The season will go as follows: on Nov. 17, the preseason will begin and last for two weeks before the start of the six week regular season, starting on Dec. 1 and ending on Jan. 19. After that is the playoffs, which begin on Jan. 26 and end on Jan. 27, then the State tournament on Jan 30 and 31.
