NEW ORLEANS — Parents in New Orleans East say they are frustrated and uncertain about the future after learning that Sarah T. Reed High School will close after this school year.
Einstein Charter Schools, which operates Reed, announced the decision this week, citing declining enrollment and poor academic performance across several of its campuses.
“It means a lot to the community,” said parent Rhondra Hunter, whose son is a sophomore at the school. Reed enrolled about 400 students this year.
Hunter said she worries about how her son will adjust.
“Now he’s going to have to go into a new school setting and remake friends,” she said. “Hopefully he can mesh with those group of people.”
The closure is part of a broader consolidation plan affecting multiple Einstein campuses. Einstein Middle
