OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - A man from Ukraine is still in Wisconsin, years after his high school exchange program was supposed to end.
He came over in 2022, the same year of the Russian invasion.
Now, in his junior year of college at UW-Oshkosh, he’s still fulfilling the purpose of his original visit: to share stories about his country and his culture
Vladyslav Plyaka is only 20, but he’s lived quite a life so far. He came here in 2022 to spend a year in high school as an exchange student.
He was accepted to the program before war broke out in Ukraine.
“The sole purpose of my time in the United States was to talk about my culture, to talk about my country, to talk about how it feels to live in Ukraine and how it’s going,” says Plyaka.
