ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) - An Elizabeth City officer-involved shooting from this summer has been ruled lawful by the district attorney.
District Attorney Jeffrey Cruden sent a letter to the Elizabeth City Police Department justifying Lieutenant James Judge’s actions in the July 20th shooting.
Police say it happened around 12:40 p.m. near Hughes Boulevard and Halstead Boulevard, where an officer was called to a report of an armed person.
Police say the officer made contact with a 32-year-old Perquimans County man who was carrying a gun. The officer then shot the man, according to the department.
The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The State Bureau of Investigation is leading the ongoing investigation.
