TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - There was a special reason why students walked to school in large numbers on Wednesday morning.
Students across the nation took part in the walk to honor civil rights icon Ruby Bridges.
Bridges famously walked to school in 1960, becoming the first African American child to integrate into an all-white school in Louisiana following the Supreme Court's ruling of Brown vs. Board of Education.
The event aims to spark discussions on anti-racism and anti-bullying across the country.
The walk began in 2018, and seven years later, it now has support from the Ruby Bridges Foundation and other groups.
Carlos Armendariz, principal of Nosotros Academy, highlighted Bridges as an inspiring figure.
