RICHLAND, Wash. – A significant step has been taken in the Bateman Island causeway removal project.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District announced that a $1.2 million construction contract has been awarded to Pipkin Incorporated .
The project is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Yakama Nation and the State Department of Ecology.
Construction is expected to begin as early as next month.
The project's aim is to restore the ecological function of the Yakima River Delta. It will improve water flow and enhance the habitat, contributing to the overall health of the river's ecosystem.
