BELTON — A jury was dismissed after they had started to hear the state’s evidence against an ex-soldier who admitted to shooting his wife through two walls but claimed it was an accident.
When the state began to present its case on Wednesday, jurors heard a long 911 call from Cory Jermaine Johnson, who was the defendant on trial after being indicted on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a family member.
Next, a Killeen Police Department officer testified about responding on the afternoon of Feb. 3, 2020, to the small apartment in the 100 block of South Twin Creek Drive where a woman, also a soldier, had been shot by Johnson while she was sitting in a window nook. She survived and remains partially paralyzed.
