SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Zoo has announced that Congo Falls, its long-awaited gorilla habitat, will open to the public on December 13—marking the return of gorillas to the city for the first time in more than 30 years.
The zoo says Congo Falls is a two-acre habitat designed to set “a new standard” for wildlife conservation, education and animal care. The opening marks a major milestone in the zoo’s 111-year history, according to zoo officials.
The new exhibit will house eight western lowland gorillas: a bachelor troop of four males and a family group made up of one silverback and three females, the zoo teased over the summer .
