Gov. Kevin Stitt announced clemency for Tremane Wood, who was on death row for the 2002 murder of Ronnie Wipf, commuting his sentence to life without parole after a thorough review and prayerful consideration.

Brett Farley, executive director of the Catholic Conference of Oklahoma, expressed relief at the decision. Advertisement

"I was elated, had a big sigh of relief. Tremane was literally moments from being on the gurney," Farley said. "It’s a difficult decision; we understand it's not one he takes lightly, so just been a very difficult and long 72 hours where all of this has played out."

Farley shared his personal experience upon hearing the news.

"I was in the chapel praying at the moment I got the alert, the governor granted clemency, and so it was an answered prayer," he said.
