One of the leading bids to open a casino in New York City may have hit a major roadblock.
The plan put forth by Mets owner Steve Cohen puts the proposed Metropolitan Park casino on an existing parking lot by Citi Field, which is owned by the city and leased to the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA), which owns and operates a nearby tennis center.
The USTA says the agreement gives it priority on how the land gets used and filed a lawsuit. A state supreme court judge has ruled that, for now, the city must not enter into any new agreements over the use of that parking lot.
The city had been getting ready to sign off on a deal to lease part of the parking lot to a group led by Cohen.
