A spending bill that ended the longest-ever federal government shutdown included a measure allowing eight U.S. senators to sue for millions after the FBI monitored their phone activity.
Both of Tennessee’s Senators, Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, were targets of an FBI probe around protests at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn said she will sue the federal government. But after public criticism that her vote on the spending package was self-serving, she said she does not plan to seek monetary damages.
U.S. Rep. John Rose, Blackburn’s gubernatorial rival, filed a bill to reverse the provision allowing senators to seek taxpayer-funded compensation.
