SOUTH GATE, Calif. (KABC) -- Two women were shot to death and another one was wounded during a shooting early Saturday morning in South Gate, and the suspect has also been killed, authorities said.

The attack occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 8400 block of San Luis Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff's personnel responded to the scene to assist the South Gate Police Department "regarding an officer-involved shooting," according to the LASD.

When South Gate police officers arrived at the scene, they were confronted by gunfire from the suspect and an officer involved shooting occurred, a spokesperson for the South Gate Police Department told ABC7.

The suspect then retreated into the house.
