DES MOINES — Bill Knapp, a prominent Des Moines developer and philanthropist, has died at the age of 99. Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart have issued statements honoring his legacy.
Reynolds emphasized Knapp's transformative impact on the city and praised his life of service. "The city of Des Moines is what it is today thanks to the vision of Bill Knapp, but his impact extends far beyond," Reynolds said. She extended condolences to Knapp's family, noting his legacy will endure for generations.
Hart highlighted Knapp's contributions as a WWII veteran and his philanthropic efforts. "Bill Knapp epitomizes why we call his the Greatest Generation," Hart said, acknowledging his service and community contributions, including his support for the Iowa Democratic Party.
