One person died following a collision between two small planes in South Glengarry Township, Ontario, on Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m., according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Transportation Safety Board (TSB).
Witnesses reported the crash approximately ten minutes later, prompting a response from the OPP. Constable Serge Duguay stated that one of the planes managed to land safely at a nearby airport. However, the second aircraft crashed in a wooded area near Avondale, close to County Road 25.
Emergency responders located one deceased individual at the crash site. Duguay did not disclose the age or gender of the victim and could not confirm if there were additional passengers on board the downed plane. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported among the occupants of the plane that landed safely.
The search for the crashed aircraft was challenging due to its location deep in the woods, but authorities successfully located it. Duguay noted, "The process [to find the plane] was difficult because it was deep in the woods a few kilometers... but we were able to locate it."
The TSB has been notified and is taking charge of the investigation. Two investigators are en route to the scene to gather information and assess the situation. The TSB confirmed that both planes involved in the collision are registered with Cornwall Aviation Ltd., a local flight school.
As a precaution, police have closed County Road 25 and are asking the public to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing. The road remained closed as of 2:45 p.m. on Saturday. Authorities are also seeking witnesses to the incident to assist in their inquiries.
