Assam minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashok Singhal on Friday posted on social media a photograph of a cauliflower field with the caption, “Bihar approves gobi farming”, triggering a row.
The post was made while counting was under way in the Bihar Assembly elections , with trends showing the ruling National Democratic Alliance in the lead. The NDA went on to win the election.
The cauliflower image is an apparent reference to the Logain massacre during the 1989 Bhagalpur violence in Bihar, in which more than 100 Muslims were killed and buried in farmland where cauliflower saplings were later planted to conceal the bodies. More than 900 people were killed in the Bhagalpur riots.
