BELAGAVI: As many as 28 blackbucks died in the past three days in a Belagavi zoo due to suspected bacterial infection, prompting forest minister Eshwar Khandre to announce a probe by experts into the incident and order zoo staff to isolate the remaining animals. Rani Channamma Mini Zoo, which sits over 34 acres 12km from Belagavi, hosts about 200 animals, including tigers, lions and hyenas. Only blackbucks are affected in the incident. Sources said the zoo has 38 blackbucks in the 4-6 age group. Eight of them were found dead Thursday morning, and 20 more on Saturday.
