Madison Square Garden delivered the magic once again. UFC 322 brought some incredible highs on Saturday night in New York as Islam Makhachev was crowned the new welterweight champion. The native of Dagestan, Russia, outworked and outwrestled Jack Della Maddalena in the main event to take the title, joining an elite group of UFC fighters to become two-division champions.

Makhachev vacated the lightweight title to move up 15 pounds and challenge for the 170-pound belt and did so in very similar fashion to his dominant run at 155. He suffocated Della Maddalena with his pressure and grappling while threatening submissions.
