Even though it feels like the Blue Jays ’ magical run just ended, Major League Baseball’s off-season hot stove is already in full swing.
And while it might be tempting to run it back with the same group that came within an inch of winning the World Series, the goal of every team is to get better during the winter and the Jays are no exception.
Beyond re-signing Bo Bichette , they would benefit from adding a front-line starter and a new closer. As always, there’s also a need to improve pitching depth beyond those guaranteed a spot on the opening-day roster.
There should be a decent amount of money available to get some of that work done. The Jays entered the off-season with a projected payroll of about $235 million (U.S.) and a competitive balance tax number of $248 million. I
