The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a wind advisory for much of Western and Central New York, in effect until 1 a.m. Monday.

Areas affected

The advisory covers Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, and Allegany counties, including the cities of Niagara Falls, Medina, Rochester, Newark, Fair Haven, Oswego, Batavia, Warsaw, Geneseo, Canandaigua, and Wellsville.

Expected conditions

Forecasters warn of northwest winds of 25–35 mph, with gusts reaching 40–50 mph. The strong winds may knock down tree limbs, blow around unsecured items, and cause isolated power outages.

Safety guidance

Drivers are urged to use caution. Residents should secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and other loose objects.
